Art Show September 13, 2015
Elizabeth's artwork will be on display at the Share Art Heal inaugural event, our 1st Year Celebration 1-5 at Art for the People Gallery.
Dell Children's Art Gallery
Elizabeth maintains a patient art gallery, located on 4 North facing the courtyard. Patients are given the opportunity to submit artwork, with written consent to be considered for display. Abstract and representational, these works often tell a story, express an emotion, or simply represent an exploration of color and space.
Jane of All Trades
"I like to work in all different media...I think being a jane of all trades (creatively) serves me well as an art therapist, because it allows me to come up with various activities and directives for the many different patients I work with. I love drawing, painting, collage, jewelry making, cake decorating, you name it."
Elizabeth has been involved with various philanthropic organizations such as Empower Art, Mobile Arts and Wishes, and Share Art Heal, and she helps facilitate Dell Childrenʼs annual fundraiser, Art of Giving, which supports the Expressive Therapies program of art therapy, music therapy, and play therapy at the hospital.
Alcohol Ink on Glass Tiles
Elizabeth has created these bright pendants for the Share Art Heal Inaugural Art Show September 13 2015.
Art Therapist at Dell Children's
The art therapy Elizabeth provides at Dell Children's Medical Center helps children cope with their hospitalization. Some of the key goals addressed are: Self-expression Normalization of the hospital environment Pain management Providing opportunities for control Processing diagnosis Self-esteem building Building coping skills Stress/anxiety reduction
Now that I have discovered alcohol inks, I feel that I can combine this new (to me) medium with many of my other my favorite media and methods to create exciting expressions that I am proud to call my own. Alcohol inks also play with themes of chaos and control, fluidity and structure, that I find constantly present within my own life.
Art of Giving
Art of Giving provides an opportunity to teach the next generation about philanthropy through their creation of one-of-a-kind works of art. Each masterpiece created monetarily benefits the Child Life Art and Music Therapies Endowments at Dell Children's Medical Center. The first 2 years Elizabeth prepped all the art projects herself. This year she elicited the help of Austin Artists. The 2015 Art of Giving raised $90,106!
Jet and Elizabeth Painting
Elizabeth invited 12 Austin Artists to Art of Giving to create art with past and current patients and families. Each artist shared their media. Jet oil paintings begin with uplifting words painted on the canvas the scraped over with another color with a palette knife. In this 6 second film loop Elizabeth starts the Art of Giving painting writing the word Love.
I also have always strived to be resourceful during the creative process, so I often repurpose materials, such as unused shelves, tiles, and even large cable spools, finding new life for these ordinary objects.
Share Art Heal
Art supplies for Dell Children's Medical Center were in our first group of donations. Elizabeth embraced our concept immediately and has been supportive of Share Art Heal from ideas for Art Experience Kits to helping at Kit Building Days with Community Partners and helping us plan and participate in our first event. Thank you Elizabeth. We are grateful to know you.
