Art Supplies for Art From the Streets
Five artists were waiting outside the art studio when I arrived at 1:25. Art From the Streets is a free and open studio in Austin Texas that serves the homeless community. The studio is in the Trinity Center located in downtown Austin at the corners of East 7th street and Trinity Street in the lower level of St. David’s Episcopal Church across the street from The Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH).
"They'll open the doors at 1:30. Hi, thanks for bringing the art supplies.' I was greated with handshakes from everyone. One of the two women in wheelchairs claimed the small artist panel. A man about my age told me how about a year ago he was waling down the street feeling pretty low when he met an Art From the Streets volunteer on the sidewalk in front of the Center. They sat on the steps and talking about how art can help express and release feelings. After an hour of talking he decided to go in and try it. A year later he's ready to get to work on creating art for the Art From the Streets Art Show.
Inside I met Kelley Worden, Executive Director of Art From the Streets. AFTS is our newest ongoing donee. This our seond donation and the first time had the opportunnity to meet Kelly.
