Austin Police Dept. Summer Youth Leadership Program Week 1
Because of the recent rains a field trip sponsored by Austin Water to Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory and Center for Environmental Research & Study had been cancelled and Share Art Heal got the call to make art. So in addition to our 3 scheduled art projects, a service project and a field trip with the month long camp, today we did a service project and an art project with the campers. Everyone had fun. And you better believe that the kids at Austin Police Dept. Office of Community Liaison Summer Youth Leadership Program are the best behaved kids because they sure are.
In the morning session I talked about Op Art and we made a project drawing lines that ended up looking like the hands pop off the page, 3D. After lunch I talked about how Share Art Heal gives art supplies and instruction to groups in Austin then the students assembled Share Art Heal Art Experience Kits.
The Austin Police Dept. Office of Community Liaison Summer Youth Leadership Program students made 320 Share Art Heal Art Experience Kits today. They will present some of the kits to Soldiers at Ft. Hood when they visit week Ft. Hood the last week of camp. And they will present some of the kits to Dell Children's Medical Center. A third of the kids raised their hands when I asked if they'd ever been to Dell Children's as a patient or sibling of a patient.
Thank you to all the students for building the kits today. Your art projects look so cool. They'll be displayed on the walls in the school library. Thank you to the Officers and Teachers. These kids are future leaders in the community. I saw it in action today.
