Art Outreach with Austin Police Department
Austin Police Community Liaison Corporation, AISD and Share Art Heal partnered to bring the APD Art Outreach Program to Kealing Middle School every Wednesday this spring. For the last couple months Share Art Heal has brought art projects and Austin artists to work with students every Wednesday. It was an opportunity for students to make art and learn about APD's Summer Youth Leadership Program. Today was our last Art Outreach Class with APD at Kealing Middle School. Schools out next week!
The program was a success for everyone. The students had time to socialize with each other and make some very cool art. The summer program is full with 105 students enrolled as of today. And we all got to test some art projects we'll be doing with the whole camp this June. The students will lead the projects.
Today we colored Share Art Heal Coloring Postcards with markers. Last summer the students created the drawings in our book. Now they're all published artists! Thanks to Dr. Gloria Williams Director of AISD's Department of Family & Community Education each student received a copy of the book they created.
Today, the last day, a student opened her backpack and pulled out the artwork she created at home to share with us. She chose the drawings CARE, LOVE and a flower from her Share Art Heal Coloring Postcards book. Thank you for sharing your art today. We'll see you all in the Summer Youth Leadership Program in a couple weeks.
