Maria Sanchez Memorial Painting Presentation

Video: Ret. Officer Eric Oakmon, Dee Gonzales from Austin Independent School District, Jet Baker from Share Art Heal and Sharon Cannon from APD Community Outreach present the painting created by Saul Jerome San Juan and the students of APD's Summer Youth Leadership Program to the Sanchez family.

APD's Summer Youth Leadership Program is a family. Students are encouraged to attend the program for middle school students for 4 years. It's a free month long camp filled with learning, field trips, guest speakers, physical activity and art. We bring the art.

In February a mother of 4 current and former students from our family passed. Ret. Officer Eric Oakmon the camp leaders asked Jet Baker if Share Art Heal could create a memorial piece of artwork to present to the Sanchez Family. Jet's response was 'I'll ask S.J.San Juan." Saul Jerome San Juan spent many days with the students last year. He is part of the family and his response was "Yes. I'll get to work on it it as soon as I get home. And he did.

100 students painted messages, symbols and words around the portrait. We started the project in April and S.J. put the finishing touches on the painting last night.

Thank you S.J for making the portrait of Mrs. Sanchez and leading the students in the project. Thank you from APD, AISD and Share Art Heal.
