Art for Seniors: The City of Austin Congregate Meal Program
We delivered 250 of our Super Hero Coloring Cards with an 8 pack of Crayolas to the City of Austin Congregate Meal Program. The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department partners with Meals on Wheels and More for the delivery of congregate meals to recreation and senior activity centers through out Austin. The program is open to anyone 60 years of age or older. The meals are at the suggested Client Share donation of $1.00 to $3.00 but no contribution is required. In addition to lunch, participants share social and recreational activities and receive additional benefits such as nutrition education, health and welfare counseling and information and referral services.
Our inspiring Super Heroes were created by the students of the Austin Police Department's Summer Youth Leadership Program. The activity of coloring them is engaging, uplifting, relaxing and enjoyable. We provided art kits for the program's Christmas party and the feedback was all good. The seniors were happy to receive the art projects and enjoyed the art activity so we delivered enough art kits for another round of congregate meals.
