APD Youth Program & Elizabeth Hendley from Dell Children's: Print Making
June 10, 2018
The Austin Police Department Office of Community Liaison's Summer Youth Leadership Program is a free month long camp for middle school students. For 10 years now Ret. Officer Eric Oakmon has led this very special program. There are leadership lessons, field trips, films, sports, and lots of fun. Students are encouraged to attend for 4 years. And they do. The camp is run like a family. The 100+ students, leaders and the day's special guests eat breakfast and lunch together every day. This is the 3rd year Share Art Heal has been part of the family.
The first day of camp started with art! Elizabeth Hendley, Art Therapist at Dell Children's Medical Center led 100 students in individual and a group print making projects. Everyone created stamps and printed on bright paper at their tables then w0ent up on stage to make a big group project with Elizabeth. (And Emily. Thanks for helping Emily. Thank you both for sharing your talents with the students. We enjoyed printmaking so much that we're going do some more. We're going to print a bunch of paper and make greeting cards. We can't wait to show y'all the results.
